Enforcing Contact Orders

07 Nov 2008

The October edition of Family Law referred to recent research conducted in respect of how the law operates to enforce or control contact between children and their parents after a separation.

At the end of this month, Children Act 1989 will be amended by the Children & Adoption Act 2006, which will introduce two new sanctions for breach of contact orders.

There will be the possibility of either unpaid work or the payment of compensation for a financial loss. The research concluded that the current range of available sanctions was inadequate.

The report on the findings can be found at www.law.cf.ac.uk/newsandevents/news.php.
