BBC Radio Manchester presenter Heather Stott asks Family Solicitor Gail Cartwright why 60 is the new 40?
While the overall divorce rate continues to fall, the number of over 60s choosing to end their marriages has increased by a third in the last decade.
Today's over 60s enjoy good health and higher life expectancy.
Many have benefited financially from the housing boom and final salary pension schemes. People can afford to separate and start again.
By the age of 60 most couple's children have finally left home permanently. They can divorce without so much family upheaval.
The change in lifestye brought about by retirement can also be the cause for friction. The extra time together may not be quite what was expected.
And attitudes to divorce have shifted. There is not the same pressure to stay in a loveless marriage.
Today's over 60s are reluctant to settle for a quiet life after reaching retirement age.
